What it is
A sugar alcohol used as a low-calorie bulk sweetener that does not cause tooth decay.

Tastes very similar to sugar but contains about half the calories, and actively prevents dental cavities by starving plaque bacteria.

Worth knowing
Xylitol (E967) creates a noticeable "cooling" sensation on the tongue as it dissolves, making it the perfect sweetener for mint chewing gums.
Conclusion
There is no reason to avoid this stevia-derived sweetener. Evaluated by EFSA, it safely provides a low-calorie sweetness that does not cause tooth decay. While excessive consumption of sugar-free products containing it can cause mild bloating or a laxative effect, it remains very safe.
